Intentional Listening Tours

In our daily lives, we're bombarded with an incredible amount of external stimuli all competing for our attention.  Blaring car horns, beeping traffic signals, chattering crowds, the sound of planes flying overhead and so much more.  In response, our ears and brains act like filters, constantly working to ignore unnecessary sounds (like the sound of a busy intersection) while only allowing important signals (like someone calling our name) to enter our consciousness. Consequently, we become accustomed to tuning out the world around us, and often resort to blocking out noise by listening to music/podcasts in our earbuds/headphones.

While tuning out has become a survival instinct for us, some argue that this is a form of escapism and ultimately a disconnection from reality.  It's an escape from the present moment, from living in the "here and now."

Intentional Listening Tours aim to provide you with an opportunity to rediscover and cultivate your relationship with sound.  Learning to live more in the present moment.

During a tour, each participant is provided with a wireless audio receiver that they can plug their headphones into.  The receivers pick up a signal from a transmitter, which is connected to a high-quality stereo microphone that amplifies and captures the natural sounds around us.  As we progress through the walk, I'll be guiding you through a series of "intentional listening" exercises that offer new ways to experience and interpret sounds that we may typically ignore in our everyday lives.  We'll be on a journey to explore the melodies of the natural world around us.

By practicing "intentional listening," you can learn to be more mindful, find peace amidst chaos, break free from negative patterns, and develop a new appreciation for the "ordinary." This practice can help you explore and discover new, beautiful and unfamiliar aspects of your relationship with sound.
